Disaster Recovery (DR)

Have you ever considered what would happen to all your data if a natural disaster took place or your equipment was stolen? How would your organization recover?

Organizations cannot always avoid disasters, but with a DR Plan from MobiNet the effects of a disaster can be minimized. MobiNet’s contingency planning is the identification, prior to a disaster, of all critical procedures and resources necessary for your organizations survival. The purpose of such a program is to anticipate, and plan for these emergency situations before they arise, thus lessening their effects. A DR plan addresses systems recovery on a technical level in order to ensure that your organization is protected in the event that all or parts of your computer services are rendered unusable. A properly organized plan will ultimately minimize the business interruption, which usually succeeds a disaster.

Some common disasters can be defined as one or more of the following; a prolonged power outage, a localized natural disaster, theft, system and /or equipment failure or even human error.

The objective of a MobiNet disaster recovery plan is to minimize your company’s downtime and data loss. The plan minimizes the disruption of your company’s operations and ensures that some level of organizational stability and an orderly recovery after a disaster would prevail. Minimizing downtime and data loss is measured in terms of two concepts: the Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and the Recovery Point Objective (RPO).

The RTO is the time within which a business process must be restored, after a major incident (MI) has occurred, in order to avoid unacceptable consequences associated with a break in business continuity. The RPO is the age of files that must be recovered from backup storage for normal operations to resume if a computer, system, or network goes down as a result of a MI. The RPO is expressed backward in time (that is, into the past) from the instant at which the MI occurs, and can be specified in seconds, minutes, hours, or days. The RPO is thus the maximum acceptable amount of data loss measured in time. It is the age of the files or data in backup storage required to resume normal operations after the major incident.

In order to stay relevant, disaster recovery plans should be an integral part of all business analysis processes, and should be revisited at every major corporate acquisition, at every new product launch and at every new system development milestone.

MobiNet can define a DR plan that involves all or some of your data to be hosted from our secured data center to a complete relocation of your office in the event of a disaster. A secondary office location can be at the ready so in the event of a MI your staff would be directed to the secondary location to carry on business as usual.
